Only File is required

Every password field, both worksheet-targeting fields, and Culture Name are optional. Leave a password field empty if that protection layer was never applied.

One password field can cover a missing layer

If you only know one password, the intelligent fallback tries it against each protection layer, you don't need to duplicate it into every field.

Re-protect after editing

This action only removes protection. Pair it with the Secure Excel action afterward if the file needs to go back out with a password.

Not a password-recovery tool

Unlock Excel requires a correct password for each layer it removes. It cannot recover or guess an unknown password.

How do I unprotect an Excel worksheet automatically in Zapier?+

Add the PDF4me Unlock Excel action to a Zap, map the protected workbook from a previous step, and enter the Worksheet Protection Password that was used to lock the sheet. See Microsoft's guide to worksheet protection for how the native Excel feature works.

How do I unlock cells in Excel that are locked for editing?+

Cell locking is controlled by worksheet protection. Provide the Worksheet Protection Password in this action and the cell-editing lock is removed for the worksheets you target, or all worksheets if none are specified.

Can I unprotect an Excel workbook without knowing the password?+

No. This action removes protection using passwords you supply, it does not crack or recover unknown passwords. If multiple candidate passwords are provided, it tries them in order for each layer, but at least one supplied value must match the real password.

What is the difference between workbook protection and worksheet protection in Excel?+

Workbook protection locks the structure, preventing sheets from being added, deleted, hidden, or renamed. Worksheet protection locks the content of a specific sheet, preventing cell edits. See Microsoft's documentation on protected worksheet areas for the underlying concept. This action removes both layers independently, along with a separate file-open encryption password.
