Pratik İpuçları

Image Type must match the real file format

Setting Image Type to PNG for a file that is actually a JPG (or vice versa) can prevent correct processing. Confirm the format before mapping it in.

Run this before resizing or compressing

Apply EXIF rotation first in your scenario, then resize or compress. Correcting orientation after a resize can compound cropping issues on non-square images.

Re-saved images may have lost EXIF data

If a photo has already passed through another editor or platform that strips metadata, there may be no Orientation tag left to read, and the image will pass through unrotated.

Different phone models write different orientation values

The EXIF Orientation tag can be any value from 1 to 8, not just "rotated 90 degrees." The module handles all standard EXIF orientation values, including mirrored orientations.

This does not read GPS or camera-model EXIF fields

Rotate by EXIF Data uses only the Orientation tag. Use Image - Extract Metadata if your workflow also needs GPS coordinates, camera model, or capture timestamp.

Screenshots typically have no orientation tag

Screenshots and many desktop-generated images never carry an EXIF Orientation tag, so this module has nothing to correct on them and will pass them through unchanged.

What is EXIF orientation and why do photos appear sideways?+

Many smartphone and camera sensors always capture image data in the same physical orientation and record which way the device was actually held in the EXIF Orientation tag (a value from 1 to 8) instead of rotating the pixel data itself. Viewers that ignore this tag display the photo sideways or upside down even though the file itself is fine. Rotate by EXIF Data reads that tag and physically rotates the pixels to match, so the image displays correctly everywhere, including viewers that do not read EXIF metadata. Do I need to specify a rotation angle manually?+

No. The module reads the EXIF Orientation tag automatically and applies the correct rotation without you specifying degrees. This is different from a manual Rotate module where you set a fixed angle; EXIF-based rotation adapts per image based on how each photo was actually captured.

What happens if an image has no EXIF orientation data?+

If the source image has no EXIF Orientation tag (common with screenshots, scanned documents, or images already re-saved without metadata), the module leaves the image orientation unchanged since there is no tag to read. Verify Image Type matches the actual file format before running the module, since a mismatched type can prevent correct processing.

How is this different from the general Rotate an Image module?+

The general Rotate an Image module applies a fixed angle you specify (e.g. 90 or 180 degrees) to every image. Rotate by EXIF Data instead reads each image's own Orientation tag and applies whatever correction that specific photo needs, which is why it works well on batches of photos with mixed orientations from different phones or cameras.
